Mercy Ministries Executive Director Full-Time Position
The primary objective of the Executive Director of Mercy Ministries is to provide Christ-centered, mission-driven leadership that ensures the ministry faithfully fulfills its purpose of serving clients, supporting families, and engaging the community. The Executive Director implements the vision and strategic priorities established by the Board of Directors, oversees daily operations, supervises staff and volunteers, and promotes a culture of excellence, compassion, and integrity. Operating under the authority of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director manages personnel, programs, finances, and external partnerships while fostering healthy organizational structure and accountability. The Executive Director represents the ministry within the community, cultivates donor and church relationships, strengthens partnerships, and ensures that all services reflect Biblical truth, respect for human dignity, and a commitment to life.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Staff Oversight
● Provide mission-driven direction, supervision, and training coordination for staff and
volunteers.
● Implement and enforce active policies and procedures across all operations.
● Develop and execute an annual training plan for staff and volunteers to improve skills
and effectiveness.
● Recommend staff participation in conferences, workshops, and outside trainings (as
approved by the Board).
● Schedule and lead regular staff meetings to maintain communication, policy awareness,
and unity.
Human Resources
● Oversee implementation of all HR functions including interviewing, hiring, onboarding,
and personnel management.
● Identify, evaluate, select, and recommend candidates for staff positions.
● Maintain complete and accurate personnel files.
● Conduct formal evaluations for direct reports and ensure evaluations are completed for all
staff.
● Provide coaching, feedback, and disciplinary action when necessary to maintain a healthy
workplace culture.
Board Relationship
● Authority & Accountability:
○ Operate under the authority and direction of the Board of Directors, carrying out
all policies, strategic priorities, and decisions established by the Board.
● Communication:
○ Keep the Board fully informed regarding operational, financial, personnel, and
programmatic matters that could impact the ministry.
○ Provide timely, accurate reports and seek Board direction when Board approval is
required.
● Boundaries:
○ Refrain from taking independent action on matters within the Board’s
purview—including governance, organizational structure, major financial
commitments, legal matters, and strategic direction—without explicit Board
authorization.
● Meetings:
○ Attend Board meetings as a non-voting ex-officio member and participate in
committee meetings when requested or necessary for coordination.
● Collaboration:
○ Work in partnership with the Board Chair and committees to ensure clear
decision-making, smooth operations, and a transparent, accountable leadership
culture.
Business Operations & Administrative Oversight
● Provide leadership ensuring that Mercy’s mission and vision are reflected in all programs
and daily operations.
● Coordinate with the Board of Directors and staff on fundraising initiatives, events, and
the annual banquet.
● Oversee day-to-day facility operations including maintenance, space management, and
security.
Financial Management
● Coordinate with the Treasurer, Board, and staff on budget proposals, financial issues, and
reporting.
● Oversee accurate and timely maintenance of financial records.
● Monitor and approve expenditures and ensure adherence to board-approved budgets.
Record Keeping & Reporting
● Oversee creation and maintenance of operational and statistical records (e.g., client visits,
services provided).
● Prepare and deliver reports to the Board of Directors and relevant committees.
Technology & Communication Systems
● Oversee installation and use of technology needed for operations, client services, and data
tracking.
● Work with staff to develop and maintain an email database and effectively use the
ministry’s website and social media for donor engagement.
Stakeholder & Community Relations
● Build and maintain strong relationships with churches, pastors, donors, clients,
volunteers, and community partners.
● Educate community members about Mercy’s services and mission.
● Maintain regular communication with major donors and send timely donor
acknowledgment letters.
Networking & Partnerships
● Engage with other nonprofits, ministries, and community organizations to extend service
offerings and enhance client support.
Strategic Planning
● Collaborate with the Strategic Planning Committee to develop long- and short-term goals
for ministry growth, improvement, and sustainability.
Public Relations
● Serve as the official representative of Mercy Ministries in the community and media.
● Work with the Board to promote the organization through presentations, marketing
materials, and outreach efforts.
● Assist with preparation of materials for fundraising, events, and communication
campaigns.
Staff Responsibilities
● Define staff roles and responsibilities within the Employee Handbook and maintain the handbook with regular updates.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The role may require:
● Lifting up to 25 pounds frequently
● Extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, and computer use
● Occasional evening or weekend work for events, trainings, or outreach

● Pursue ongoing personal and professional development to strengthen leadership, management, and effectiveness in partnering with the Board.
● Attend relevant conferences, workshops, trainings, and ministry leadership events, sharing insights and best practices with staff and the Board.
Professional and Personal Attributes, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in ministry leadership, nonprofit management, business administration, social services, or related field preferred.
● Leadership experience in ministry, nonprofit, or related fields is preferred.
● Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, manage operations, and work collaboratively with a governing board.
● Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict management, and organizational skills.
● Demonstrated commitment to the sanctity of human life, Biblical principles, and Mercy’s Christ-centered mission.
● Experience with fundraising, donor engagement, or community relations preferred.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and common nonprofit software tools.
