Any woman of childbearing years could be vulnerable to seeking an abortion.
Some of the reasons women consider abortion are:
- A child would interfere with her educational or career plans
- She can’t afford a child due to the loss of a job, poverty, or homelessness
- She doesn’t have support from her family or the baby’s father
- The timing is wrong and she is not ready to be a mother
- Her boyfriend or parent is pressuring her to have an abortion
- She has too many children already
- She could never “give up” her baby in an adoption
- She is too young or too old to have a baby
- Her pregnancy is just a “clump of cells”
At Mercy, many of our clients who consider abortion do so because of financial reasons or lack of support from the baby’s father. Sometimes these obstacles seem insurmountable to a woman in crisis.
The first step is understanding where the woman is coming from and listening to her concerns. As she shares the reasons she is thinking about abortion, we listen and assure her that Mercy can offer emotional support and resources. We will come alongside her during her pregnancy and beyond. She is not alone.
We talk with her about the development of her baby based on how long she has been pregnant. We tell her the truth about her pregnancy – her baby is not just a “clump of cells,” but a developing little person with unique DNA.
We also share that she and her unborn baby are loved and valued by God.
Thank you for standing with Mercy as we love, encourage, and equip her so she can choose life!
